Manhattan Dan aiming for Royal Ascot glory in 2016

Royal Ascot is the main target for American sprinter Manhattan Dan according to his trainer Gary Contessa.

The star colt has been in superb form this season and after his impressive victory in Gulfstream’s Fisher Island Handicap, Manhattan Dan will make his first trip to Europe for the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

The six-furlong contest is the newest Group One contest at the Royal Meeting and looks to be attracting a high-quality field for its second running in 2016.

Contessa is confident of Manhattan Dan’s chances at Royal Ascot and said: “We know what he is and we know what his limitations are, and let’s try to make him the best sprinter out there.

“So that’s the road we’ve taken this year, and so far we’re 100 per cent right. I know you get to England and it’s a whole different ball game, but it’s hard to imagine anyone being able to beat him going six furlongs. That’ll be his next start, we do want to try Royal Ascot. That’s the game plan for him.”

With just one week to go until entries for the eight Group One contests at Royal Ascot close, the biggest international stars are nominating their targets for the big races.

Undrafted will return to defend his Royal Ascot crown

Another American star who will be one of the headline attractions of Royal Ascot 2016 is Undrafted who will return to defend his Diamond Jubilee Stakes title.

The six-year-old is owned by former NFL star Wes Welker and under a masterful Frankie Dettori ride he just got the better of Australia’s Brazen Beau in one of the best races at the 2015 meeting.

His trainer Wesley Ward has confirmed that he will attempt to win the Group One contest for a second time in June. Ward has a sensational record at Royal Ascot and his horses are always well supported by the fans.
