Karakonite will not line-up for the Queen Anne Stakes on the opening day of Royal Ascot 2015. Racegoers and guests inside the fabulous Royal Ascot hospitality facilities will not see one of the stars horse racing after it was confirmed he will miss the meeting with a foot injury.
The Group 1 winner was set to take on Lockinge winner Night of Thunder, French colt Sollow and Hong Kong superstar Able Friend in the opening race at Royal Ascot. But racing manager Alan Cooper yesterday said that he will be given more time to reach peak fitness and he will now be aimed at the Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville.
The feature race on Royal Ascot Ladies Day is the Gold Cup, where Forgotten Rules is the star attraction.
Dermot Weld’s runner has won all three of his starts on the flat, including a Group 2 at Ascot in October.
After his reappearance win the Group 3 Vintage Crop Stakes the five-year-old was cut into 5/2 favourite for the Royal Ascot Ladies Day showpiece event, with Brown Panther pushed out to 8/1 with some firms. But Weld said after the race that his horse wouldn’t want the ground to be in “anyway firm”.
This has given hope to connections of Brown Panther who has a fine record on fast going and was only beaten half-a-length into third in the Gold Cup last season. But the Chester May Festival winner Clever Cookie is another like Forgotten Rules who would want a bit of cut in the ground to be seen to his best.
