Beautiful Romance the impressive winner of the Betfred Middleton Stakes at York’s Dante Festival could be heading for Royal Ascot next month.
The Godolphin owned four-year-old went into the race as the 5-1 second favourite behind the well fancied Journey. Under a beautifully timed ride from James Doyle the mare travelled well and two furlongs out she made her move to the front and saw out the race very well; winning by a length-and-a-quarter.
Now a trip to Royal Ascot could be on the cards for Saeed bin Suroor’s charge with the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes on the final day of the meeting a potential target.
Jockey Doyle was extremely impressed with the performance and said after the race: “She has been training great. It is nice to have a clear run with here.
“She is so laid back, I had to wake her up and we got there a touch soon but she stayed well. She is very versatile.”
Solow ruled out of Ascot title defence with injury
Europe’s star miler Solow has been ruled out of Royal Ascot by his connections. The six-year-old was one of the stars of the season in 2015 winning at Group 1 level on six occasions including twice at Ascot Racecourse; The Queen Anne Stake and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.
The Freddy Head trained superstar was ruled out of his race at Dubai in March after making a brilliant reappearance.
Now that injury has ruled him out of Royal Ascot 2016 with Pierre-Yves Bureau, racing manager for the Wertheimers, said: “Solow will recuperate at Haras de Saint-Leonard, further to the blow received during a previous gallop.
“He will return to Freddy’s Head’s when he is totally recovered.”
The absence of Solow has promoted American superstar Tepin to favourite for the race. The five- year-old is one of the global stars heading for Ascot in June; her victory in the Grade 1 Coolmore Jenny Wiley Stakes was one of the performances of the year.
